Jigglypuff is black

Evidence:

1) her curls pop severely

2) her VOCALS

Food-related name; a common microaggression black women deal with

4) her body inflates and she becomes much larger when she’s angry, a metaphor for the way black women are perceived as “blowing up” the moment we show even the slightest sign of a negative emotion

5)

That’s just black women, babey

6)

A metaphor for black womens’ efforts to be heard being ineffective in the face of the apathy from the other parties involved, and how our voices are eventually snuffed out/we get too tired to keep trying 😔

7) hints that jigglypuff & the rest of its evolutionary line come from space? A metaphor for the diaspora & how AAs are “out of place”/“foreign” to our land & aren’t “really” at home in our home

In conclusion, slightly racist depiction of black peoples that plays into a lot of stereotypes/deals with a lot of issues that really shouldn’t have been touched on by nonblack creators piloting a black character, but we DO stan a black queen and that is that on that.

TIL that in 1985, police engaged in a standoff with the black liberation group ‘MOVE’ at their home in Philadelphia. A massive firefight ensued in which the police used choppers to drop two C4 bombs on the roof. The fire destroyed 65 houses and 11 people died.

via reddit.com

Half of the people who died in the bombing were children. The youngest of whom was only seven. Two hundred and fifty people were left homeless. When the bomb was dropped, the firefighters were ordered to stand back and not do anything to help. Police shot people as they tried to escape. And while the city apologized and called the bombing “unconscionable” the only person who was ever criminally charged in the affair was Ramona Africa, the sole adult survivor of the bombing.

Seriously, every single American should be required to learn about the MOVE bombing.

While this is going around, probably worth adding that Ramona Africa is currently suffering from cancer and asking for help with medical fees, gofundme here: https://www.gofundme.com/helpsaveramonaafrica

Nonblack people of color using the term “non-[insert race/ethnicity here]” when they’re talking about racism are so transparent about their antiblackness. You’re grouping Black people in with our oppressors, for one. Two, you’re implying that we have the ability to racially oppress you, and that we don’t understand or experience racism.

If you’re talking about racism, don’t say “non-Asians”, just say white people. The term “nonblack” was specifically about acknowledging nonblack people’s privilege by being Not Black, and like all our terms, nonblack people are taking it and copying it for themselves and applying it to their own struggles when it’s inaccurate and inapplicable. Just like “anti-X racism”.

If you’re talking about an intracommunity issue and don’t want it reblogged by those who aren’t in your community, say so. Don’t say “non-X don’t reblog” bc you’re still perpetuating antiblackness

Also while I’m at it @ nonblack people: STOP referring to Black people as “blacks” even if you’re quoting someone, I shouldn’t have to explain why it’s not okay. Call out other nonblack people when this happens.

Nonblack people can reblog this, btw

bringing this back to add that its also highly ineffective specifically in the case of saying “non asian” because you’re homogenizing all asians and implying we face the same struggles with racism across the board in the US when this is blatantly untrue. this is also the case when you use the phrase with other races and nonblack ethnicities, clearly.

“nonblack” was coined in an african american context and now encompasses the antiblackness all black people face today globally, acknowledging that nonblack people can and do uphold the institution of antiblackness. that doesn’t mean the framework can or should grow to encompass nonblack people’s experience with racism.

and then in 2019! i still see people trying to coin ‘antiasianness’ and i just think what a waste it is for people to still be focusing on these terms and using them when you can so easily talk about your own issues with racism without co-opting our struggles as black people. it just doesn’t have enough relevance to current race relations/ politics or effect on racism in the real world to be as widespread as it is. and wanting a substitute for our framework, or terms specific to us, for you nonblack folks to use, means you’re missing the point entirely.

going back to my point that people clearly don’t understand, when you’re talking about antiblackness specifically as an axis of oppression and you bring up that the term “nonblack’’ groups nonblack people of color in with their white oppressors, you’re missing the fact that nonblack people uphold antiblackness just the same as white people and that’s what this post was all about.

killmongersmistress:

I don’t know her personally so not liking her is kinda unimportant but the basis of my dislike comes from her slick comments in regards to any success a black person/film receives.

When Black Panther came out she criticized the lack of Latinos in the film (a film set mostly in an uncolonized country in Africa), while doing press with Yara Shahidi she tried to talk over the interviewer when he commended Yara for being an inspiring role model to young black girls and women specifically to say she’s an inspiration to women.

She stated recently that black women get paid better in Hollywood which is false, like completely. The highest paid tv actress right now is Sofia Vegara and she’s on an ensemble cast. She makes more than Kerry Washington did for Scandal despite her being the main character.

And I just generally don’t like the way she ignores Afro-Latinas whenever she makes these stupid comments of hers. You know when she’s talking about Latinas she’s not thinking of Gina Torres or Amara la Negra. She’s thinking of Selma Hayek and Eva Longoria.

She doesn’t have to put down the accomplishments of black people or black media to lift up the accomplishments of Latinos and yet she does, repeatedly.

Its annoying and tiring because it’s just proof that people confuse being visible to being better or successful. Like people comparing Aquaman to Black Panther because Jason Momoa is half Hawaiin or Asians asking black people to cape for Crazy Rich Asians the way they did Black Panther.

People act as if Black people succeeding means other races can’t and it’s ridiculous because black people are where we are now because WE DO THE WORK TO SUPPORT OURSELVES. I’m not saying we can’t show support for others but to expect us to do the work we do for ourselves for them is ridiculous. We can’t speak for a community we’re not a part of.

This was longer than I wanted but at the end of the day fuck Gina Rodriguez and anyone else who expects black people to carry their burdens.

……….????

What I’m trying to say is if we’re mutuals and you’re a nbpoc who says things like “non-asian” and “non-brown”, lmk so I can unfollow you

I just think it’s funny how “non-asian”, “non-latine”, “non-brown” (stupid and disgusting), etc, are direct rip-offs of “non-black” (apparent in the way that it only functions correctly or sensically in its original context) and literally the only use I’ve seen you all get out of these words is blatant, intentional antiblackness

And by funny I mean it’s disgusting but it’s literally the same as every other example of you attempting to translate the way we discuss black-specific issues to non-black contexts; same excuses & justifications, same harmful impact in practice. and you just could not pay me to care about y’all anymore. So it’s funny I guess.
